COSA's Exercise & Cancer and Global Oncology Groups are offering up to two COSA Fellowships (ideally one from each stream) to early-mid career researchers to coordinate and lead a research study to develop a model of care for exercise oncology in the setting of a lower-middle-income country, working closely with the National Referral Hospital in Honiara.

The project will involve exploring implementation of elements of the WHO Package of Rehabilitation Interventions in Cancer and developing resource adapted guidelines and materials in co-development with partners in-country.

The successful applicants will work with health professionals based in the Solomon Islands and with members of other COSA interest groups. There will be opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and in-country missions. The scope of this project may expand to other Pacific Island nations, such as Samoa, and may incorporate other initiatives in survivorship. This work may inform the development of a regional (or more global) model for the development and integration of exercise oncology in lower and middle income countries.

The successful applicants will receive mentorship, guidance and support from members of the two Executive Committees comprised of internationally renowned senior clinicians and researchers in exercise oncology, medical oncology and global health.

The time commitment for this project is estimated to be 4 hours a week for approximately 12 months but will fluctuate depending on the stage of the project. Before submitting an application, applicants are expected to confirm that their current manager/supervisor supports them dedicating the time required to undertake the Fellowship. The roles are voluntary in nature, there is no financial reimbursement. If not already COSA members, the successful applicants would be expected to join COSA and become members of the Exercise and/or Global Oncology Groups.

Depending on final contribution, the two successful applicants will:

1. act as first authors of a peer reviewed manuscript resulting from this work
2. be supported to present this work at the 2026 COSA ASM (complimentary registration will be provided by COSA)
3. be encouraged to present the work at other meetings and conferences
4. receive certificates of acknowledgement
5. be encouraged to be involved or lead future work in the field of Global Oncology in collaboration with the COSA Groups benefiting from a wide network in the region.
